Acts of kindness don't take much my friends. Look around and you will see opportunity is everywhere. Helping someone carry a heavy load (physically or metaphorically), completing a task for someone, or simply just giving up some of your time so that a person feels seen. When you perform small acts of kindness, as my man Shakespeare puts it, "...it is twice blessed, it blesseth him who gives and him who takes". Doing good makes you feel good and can change the life of the one you help. If it's a dollar or helping your friend move. It makes a difference. If we all do one little action every day for someone ells, with the expectation of nothing in return how much better would this world be?
If you've been reading #TimThoughts and haven't taken much to heart I am really hoping this can hit home. Give simply. Simply give. Out of the Kindness of your heart. With no expectation. You'll change your world. You'll be surprised by what comes back to you.

We all do it. We look at ourselves and the accomplishments we have achieved and think, "I'm not that great", "Their _______ is much better than mine", or "Oh, it's just this dumb thing I did". STOP! You stop it right there!... I dare you to change that thought... I want you to look at what you create with kindness. Maybe you painted a skyline, wrote a song, or choreograph a dance. You have made something that has never been done before. Even if it's a cover of a song that someone wrote. No one can sing it the way you sing it. Isn't that an amazing thing? None can paint Picasso's "Starry Night" the way YOU can. No one can dance Fosse choreography the way YOU do. No one can sing or speak a speech the way YOU do. NO ONE! This needs to be celebrated. Celebrate your art and your creations. In order to do so, you must create. I think Sondheim put's it best "stop worrying if your vision is new. Let others make that decision, they usually do." Get after it, have fun, and go make something! I'm rooting for you.
Fear is a curious beast. It's there to protect us from being hurt or to tell us to run from danger. It can be helpful but what if your fear get's in your way? What do you do then?... You have moments. Moments to go for what you want the most and then fear tries to stop you because it THINKS it knows how to protect you from the pain you MAY have if you don't get it.. It is in those brief moments you have to act! When your mind starts to retreat from opportunity you have to make a CONSCIOUS EFFORT to stand your ground. To try. To get up and take your opportunity. Success takes action and effort. Don't let fear stop you. You are in control and it's time. Take chances. Take opportunity. Fight and win!How many times have you seen someone passing on the street or sitting at a your favorite spot in your city and thought "They have such grate stile", "That person has an awesome laugh", or "That person changes my day when I come here"... What if you actually told them that? I'm sure you would be afraid to say it because they might think you are strange... Well the only reason for that is that no one dose it! It's time to make a change I say...
If you've known the person for a long time or if you've just met I want to encourage you to speak out the good that you see in people. Maybe they've never been told that their positive attitude is infectious, that their voice is really good, or that their work inspires you to do better. We need to lift one another up! Next time positive words of affirmation pass through your mind don't let them pass you by. Speak them out and lift up your fellow human! |

AuthorI'm a PDX boy living in a NYC world. I believe that simple acts of kindness can change a life and that words are the most powerful things we own. I hope to use my words to bring positivity and hope to all on their journey.Archives
